Job summary

Backus Hospital, part of Hartford HealthCare, seeks a Speech Language Pathologist to join the acute care team. You will independently evaluate patients and develop individualized goals aligned with caregiver objectives, delivering targeted speech, cognitive and swallowing therapy to maximize safety and independence.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree, Doctorate or PhD in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program.
• Current State of Connecticut license in Speech Language Pathology or meets minimum requirements for a Supervised Professional Experience plan.
• CCC with national exam or approved clinical fellowship (ASHA) required.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough evaluation of oral-motor strength, motor speech, voice, swallowing, comprehension, expression.
• Establish measurable goals with patient/family based on care protocols.
• Deliver patient care using age-appropriate interventions.
• Provide patient and caregiver education on treatment and equipment.
• Coordinate care with physicians, therapists and community resources.
