Job summary

San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital is seeking an Acute Care Sitter to provide continuous observation and support for patients at risk, under the direction of licensed nursing staff. This role focuses on safety, dignity, and timely reporting within an acute care environment.

The position requires Basic Life Support certification and strong communication with the care team, patients, and families, adhering to hospital policies and HIPAA requirements.

Qualifications

• Must have strong observation skills for extended periods.
• Excellent communication with patients, families, and staff.
• Ability to follow directions from licensed clinical staff and escalate concerns when needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous visual observation of assigned patient(s) according to the level ordered by the RN.
• Maintain a safe environment by reporting hazards, changes in condition, or behavior.
• Notify licensed nursing staff promptly of patient needs or escalation of safety concerns.
• Remain with the patient during transport, testing, or activities unless relieved by staff.
• Assist with non-clinical comfort measures and basic needs within scope and training.
• Follow policies related to suicide precautions, infection prevention, privacy, and emergency response.
• Use de-escalation techniques and seek assistance when behavior escalates.
• Document observations and safety checks accurately and timely.
