Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Licensed Occupational Therapist to evaluate patients, establish care plans, and implement treatment to improve daily living activities. You will fabricate assistive devices, monitor outcomes, and coordinate discharge planning with the care team.

The role requires strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, plus adherence to safety and documentation standards. May involve supervising assistants and supporting performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited school
• Licensed Occupational Therapist in the state
• BLS for Healthcare Providers within 90 days (AHA)
• No experience required
• Intermediate computer skills
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills
• Demonstrated organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
• Annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g. DNV, CARF)

Responsibilities

• Interprets physician referrals and evaluates the patient's physical, perceptual, cognitive, social, and vocational abilities and their impact on the patient's activities of daily living.
• Establishes a plan of care and implements individual treatment based on evaluation results, functional goals and by utilizing appropriate techniques.
• Provides and/or fabricates assistive devices and/or splints to enhance patient's functional independence.
• Monitors and evaluates outcomes and adjusts the plan based on patient response; communicates status to physicians and teammates.
• Plans for discharge including home programs, teaching, referrals, transition planning, and equipment orders.
• Completes documentation per policy; records patient care and progress; handles billing and scheduling; maintains productivity standards.
• Cleans up after treatment; operates equipment; applies safety and infection control measures.
• Participates in performance improvement activities; manages caseload and coordinates coverage as needed.
• Pursues professional growth and orients new staff; may supervise assistants and rehab aides/techs; may supervise students.
