Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a Nurse Practitioner First Assist AC to function as an advanced practice clinician in peri-operative settings, providing inpatient and outpatient care under the Texas Nurse Practice Act. The role includes operating room assistance at least 30% of the time and on-call duties as required.

The position supports leadership, education, and patient advocacy, with shifts including nights and weekends as part of the regular schedule.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher from an accredited Nursing school and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Two years of RN/advanced practice or NP clinical experience, and one year of surgical experience.
• RN license in Texas; ARPN Acute Care; Magnet ANCC Acute Care Practitioner certification; CRNFA; BLS; ACLS; AP prescriptive authority; DEA.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership as a clinical resource, interprofessional consultant, and patient advocate; offers coaching and staff development.
• Fosters teamwork, role models communication, and serves as preceptor for NP students and medical residents.
• Engages staff through active listening, equitable decision-making, and support for organizational goals.
• Provides leadership in patient care under physician supervision and coordinates care among providers.
• Performs first‑assist/second‑assist surgical services as needed; responds to patient questions and emergencies.
