Job summary

Transamerica is seeking an experienced actuary for the Model Development and First Line Validation team in Cedar Rapids. The role focuses on maintaining and developing AXIS models across Life, Health, and Annuity spaces to support statutory reserves, IFRS 17 liabilities, US GAAP, and risk calculations.

The candidate will collaborate with experience studies, business units, and risk teams, and may supervise staff.

Qualifications

• FSA or ASA designation with bachelor’s degree in actuarial science or related field and 7+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong leadership, judgement, organization and prioritization skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication of advanced mathematical and analytical concepts.
• Works well under pressure and within time constraints to accomplish objectives.
• Excellent computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to modeling best practices, standards, and frameworks applicable to AXIS models.
• Support the implementation of US GAAP calculations in Life, Health and Annuity models.
• Leads baselining and control review of US GAAP implementation in AXIS models.
• Works with experience studies, business unit partners, and risk teams to develop testing plans that provide assurance around actuarial model changes.
• Serves as a key resource for KC3 replicating spreadsheets, annual unlocking reviews, and KC8 technical reviews throughout the year.
• Leads several special project initiatives, including AI adoption, to improve workflows.

Education

Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or related field

FSA or ASA or equivalent professional designation
