Job summary

The American Academy of Actuaries is seeking a Staff Actuary, Casualty and Risk Management to support public policy and professionalism initiatives in the U.S. You will analyze complex issues, collaborate with volunteers and regulators, and translate strategic priorities into actionable guidance.

The role emphasizes risk and climate impact, cyber insurance, AI, data science, and multi-line insurance knowledge. Travel ~15% and cross‑practice leadership will be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or a related field.
• ASA or ACAS required.
• 7-10 years of actuarial experience or an equivalent combination of education and experiences.
• Experience in property/casualty insurance, financial services, or risk management.
• Understanding of policy issues in the property/casualty insurance or financial services sector.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement, with experience working with legislative and regulatory stakeholders preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support public policy and professionalism teams and build relationships with regulators and organizations.
• Deliver public policy work products, professionalism content, and outreach initiatives.
• Represent the Academy at public forums to promote policy perspectives.
• Propose and develop work products with appropriate stakeholders to drive timely policy work.
• Contribute to research on emerging actuarial and risk topics with staff and volunteers.
• Lead projects and sometimes manage cross‑practice issues.
