Job summary

National Interstate is recruiting for its Ignition Graduate Development Program in Richfield, OH. The program runs for a month and provides exposure to pricing, reserving, analytics, and cross‑functional teamwork.

Participants gain business understanding, participate in instructor-led and hands-on training, and develop core professional skills while building company culture. The role is on-site four days a week with one remote day.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, computer science or related field.
• 0–6 months of related experience; preparing to sit for 1st actuarial exam.
• Willing to travel or relocate to Richfield area as required.

National Interstate and Vanliner’s Graduate Development Program, Ignition

Ignition, National Interstate’s Graduate Development Program, is a month-long cohort that equips recent graduates with a comprehensive understanding of our business through a blend of instructor-led, self-paced, and hands‑on training. Participants gain a strong understanding of our business model, value proposition, and how individual roles impact the organization while becoming immersed in our company culture. Through expert‑led sessions, this program explores cross‑functional areas, develops key professional skills, and strengthens relationships through team‑building and social activities.

The program is taking place in June 2027. The role will be expected to work in the Richfield, Ohio office.

National Interstate’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on‑site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

• Learns various actuarial techniques and procedures.
• Becomes familiar with company operations, systems, and actuarial methodologies.
• Updates data in established pricing and reserving analyses.
• Becomes familiar with basic statistical techniques.
• Improves upon basic knowledge in Excel and introduced to programming and other actuarial software.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Field of Study: Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

Experience: Generally, 0 to 6 months of related experience.Prepares to sit for 1st Actuarial Exam. Preferred for at least 1 exam to be passed.
