This role is as a Specialist working on the Programs’ Pricing portfolio. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Ability to learn new pricing techniques in a fast-paced environment

Key responsibilities include:

  • Learning about various books of business across healthcare, warranty, workers’ compensation, professional liability, property, and more.
  • Generating actuarial indications with Pricing leadership and discussing non-rate strategies for niche books.
  • Owning a portfolio of Programs, building relationships across departments, and leveraging insights for business recommendations.
  • Completing project work relevant to the portfolio and other Pricing areas.
  • Assisting in setting financial forecasts for the E&S Programs Pricing books.
  • Exploring new software packages and making recommendations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Typically, 2-4 years of proven experience in P&C insurance with a focus on pricing.
  • Open to students still taking exams requiring exam support.

Location:

  • Staffed at the F pay band, located in Columbus (OH), Scottsdale (AZ), or Des Moines (IA). Hybrid work arrangement: 2 days in-office, 3 days remote.

As an Actuarial Specialist, you will deepen your knowledge of actuarial functions for P&C products and perform complex analyses vital to Nationwide’s success and customer protection.

This position may include participation in the P&C Actuarial Rotation Program, offering rotations across actuarial, analytics, and risk management teams over two-year periods. Details provided upon start.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop deeper knowledge of actuarial methodologies and manipulate complex data.
  • Conduct analyses conforming to actuarial standards, selecting data sources, making assumptions, and reporting findings.
  • Document assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations systematically.
  • Present findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Adhere to work schedules, notify leadership of potential delays.
  • Perform peer reviews to ensure quality and foster collaboration.
  • Build relationships across finance functions and assist onboarding and training.
  • Use data mining techniques, explore new software, and develop predictive modeling skills.

Other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to an Actuarial, Analytics, or Risk Management leader.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or similar.

License/Certification/Designation: Passed four or more actuarial exams, enrolled in the Actuarial Student Program.

Experience: Three or more years in actuarial roles.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills: Knowledge of actuarial functions, statistical methods, software, and databases; proficiency in Microsoft Office and programming languages; problem solving, customer focus, and adaptability.

Leadership skills and other competencies may be prioritized.

Staffing exceptions require approval.
