Job summary

Shepherd is a technology-driven MGU transforming commercial Property & Casualty insurance for high-hazard industries. We seek an Actuarial Data Analyst to join our actuarial team supporting multiple commercial lines, including General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Commercial Property, and Excess Casualty.

You will translate actuarial insights into data-driven product decisions, collaborate with underwriters and software engineers, and build dashboards to power a modern insurance platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or related analytical field.
• Knowledge of commercial insurance products and data analytics.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development, pricing, and filing of rating plans with state DOIs.
• Support compliance with rate and form filings.
• Conduct competitor analysis using regulatory databases to identify trends.
• Analyze rate manuals, underwriting guidelines, and ISO/NCCI materials for benchmarks.
• Draft responses to rate objections with actuarial justification.
• Perform loss ratio analysis by line, territory, and risk.
• Develop and maintain bordereaux and portfolio reports.
• Support workers' compensation statistical reporting obligations.
• Write SQL queries to extract and analyze premium, loss, and exposure data.
• Create BI dashboards to track product performance.
• Assist data transformation processes using dbt.
