Actuarial Consultant or Associate Actuary (REMOTE)

Our Corporate Actuarial department is seeking an Actuarial Consultant or Associate Actuary to join our growing team in Worcester, MA, or consider remote work.

This is a full-time, exempt position.

Position Overview

This role within the Corporate Actuarial department will be responsible for helping to ensure the strength of Hanover’s balance sheet and providing management with critical insights through the Reserving analysis process. Responsibilities include quarterly reviews of loss and DCCE reserves by accident and report year, segmentation of reserves, annual or semi-annual reserve analyses, and deep dives. The candidate should also identify process improvements and efficiencies.

Effective communication skills are essential, as collaboration with Underwriting, Pricing, Claims, Accounting, and Finance is expected. The role offers high exposure to executive leaders and opportunities to guide team members and participate in the Actuarial and Analytics community.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor reserve adequacy and communicate trends to leadership
  • Manage highly dynamic commercial liability reserving lines with over $1.5B in reserves
  • Ensure timely completion of quarterly financial close activities
  • Perform advanced actuarial analyses and challenge assumptions
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Collaborate with various departments to support decision-making
  • Present findings clearly to diverse audiences
  • Participate in community recruiting and training activities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field
  • 5+ years of experience in multiple LOBs or actuarial disciplines
  • ACAS preferred but not required
  • Strong communication and Microsoft Office skills
  • Intermediate programming skills for process automation
  • Excellent project management and influencing skills
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Leadership abilities to motivate and develop staff
  • Growth mindset, relationship building, influencing skills, results orientation, business knowledge, and decisiveness
