Job summary

The Core Specialty Actuarial team is expanding to support the Actuarial Pricing function. This individual contributor role focuses on evaluating pricing adequacy, developing diagnostic tools, and providing actuarial expertise to stakeholders across Marine, Surety, and Aviation & Aerospace divisions, with support for other divisions as needed.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required.
  • 2 or more years of relevant experience.
  • 4 or more exams completed.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Marine, Surety, and Aviation & Aerospace divisions with pricing evaluations and tool development.
  • Assist with premium budgeting, loss ratio planning, and pricing of new and existing programs.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly reports and support rate filings as needed.
  • Present actuarial analyses summaries to business partners and leadership.
  • Contribute to actuarial department process documentation and CAS exam progress.

Job description

The Core Specialty Actuarial team is looking to grow the team supporting our Actuarial Pricing function. This individual contributor role will primarily be responsible for supporting the Marine, Surety and Aviation & Aerospace Divisions with additional support for Property and Equine Divisions as needed. The role will primarily focus on evaluating pricing adequacy for the existing portfolio, developing and maintaining appropriate diagnostic tools, and providing actuarial subject matter expertise as needed to key stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities / Deliverables
  • Assists with the development of new rating tools when requested, while supporting existing rating tools
  • Assist with premium budgeting and loss ratio planning as requested
  • Supports pricing of new program opportunities and existing programs and product lines with technical pricing, expected loss ratios, indicated capital utilization, and any reinsurance analytics as requested
  • Assists with preparations of monthly, quarterly, and/or ad-hoc reports as needed, while synthesizing and shaping key messages
  • Supports rate filings as requested
  • Applies fundamental actuarial principles in analyzing company and industry data to prepare actuarial analyses
  • Prepares and may help present summaries of actuarial analyses for distribution to business partners and senior leadership
  • Participates in the development and documentation of actuarial department processes
  • Prepares for and progresses in the CAS examinations through on-the-job and home study
  • In addition to the above key responsibilities, you may be required to undertake other related duties from time to time as the Company may reasonably require.

Experience
  • A bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required
  • 2 or more years of relevant experience
  • 4 or more exams completed

The expected pay range for the role is $95,000 - $130,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and experiences. The disclosed pay range estimate may also be adjusted for the applicable geographic differential for the location in which the position is filled.
