Job summary

Core Specialty Insurance Holdings, Inc. is seeking an Actuarial Associate to support our Primary and Excess Casualty pricing efforts. The role will monitor portfolio performance, refine pricing assumptions, and provide actuarial insights to underwriting and business partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field is required.
  • 2+ years of relevant actuarial experience.
  • Demonstrated actuarial exam success.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Candidate having or pursuing ACAS or FCAS and taking actuarial exams is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of new rating tools and support existing tools.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc reports, synthesizing key messages.
  • Assist with loss ratio planning and premium budgeting processes.
  • Support pricing of new program opportunities and existing programs with technical pricing, loss ratios, capital utilization, and reinsurance analytics.

Job description

Overview

The Core Specialty Actuarial Pricing team is seeking a Actuarial Associate to support our growing Primary and Excess Casualty business. This newly created role will monitor portfolio performance, evaluate new business opportunities, conduct studies to refine pricing methodologies and assumptions, and provide actuarial insights to underwriting and business partners. The position offers broad exposure across the business and the opportunity to directly influence underwriting and pricing decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development of new rating tools when requested, while supporting existing rating tools
  • Assist with preparations of monthly, quarterly, and/or ad-hoc reports as needed, synthesizing and shaping key messages
  • Assist with the loss ratio planning and premium budgeting process
  • Support pricing of new program opportunities and existing programs and product lines with technical pricing, expected loss ratios, indicated capital utilization, and any reinsurance analytics as requested
  • Apply fundamental actuarial principles in analyzing company and industry data to prepare actuarial analyses
  • Prepare and may help present summaries of actuarial analyses for distribution to business partners and senior leadership
  • Prepare for and progress in the CAS examinations through on-the-job and home study
  • In addition to the above key responsibilities, you may be required to undertake other related duties from time-to-time as the Company may reasonably require
Technical Knowledge and Understanding
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of individuals in a variety of functions (e.g. Finance, Claim, Underwriting, Actuarial, Operations)
  • Works within deadlines, recognizing when urgency is needed
  • Comfortable making judgments, yet open to hearing other opinions
  • Ability to effectively communicate assumptions and results of analyses
  • Ownership of tasks and parts of projects
Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated actuarial exam success
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Candidate having or currently pursuing ACAS or FCAS and taking actuarial exams

The expected pay range for the role is $95,000 - $130,000. The specific offer will depend on a applicant’s skills and experiences. The disclosed pay range estimate may also be adjusted for the applicable geographic differential for the location in which the position is filled.
