Job summary

The Hartford in Hartford, CT, is seeking an Actuarial Analyst to support property pricing tools across the Middle & Large Business line. The role focuses on building and enhancing models to help underwriters grow the book while maintaining profitability and partnering with ERM, ASM, and other actuarial teams.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree and progress toward actuarial credentials, with strong Excel and programming skills (SQL, VBA, R, Python, SAS).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Actuarial exam path to credentialed actuary with at least 2 passed exams.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Strong Excel skills; knowledge of SQL, VBA, R, Python, SAS or similar languages a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail with time and project management skills.
• Driven, curious, proactive and able to influence others.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance property benchmark pricing tools for Property Choice, Large Property, and Inland Marine.
• Perform regular assumption analyses and suggest new approaches to differentiate losses, expenses, reinsurance costs, and profit loads across exposures.
• Strengthen consistency across property lines by aligning tools and improving controls and auditability.
• Support implementation of pricing tools, including PolicyCenter PPD calculator, LP and Marine tools, and other PolicyCenter rating support.
• Conduct dislocation analysis for updates and present results to Actuarial leaders and cross-functional teams.
