Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Sr. Director & Actuary to lead the Middle & Large Property actuarial team in Denver, overseeing loss ratio analysis and portfolio performance for roughly $1.0B of business.

You will guide pricing, performance monitoring, and data-driven insights in collaboration with underwriting, product, and ERM. You will manage two staff members and work in a hybrid setup, reporting to the AVP of Middle & Large Property Actuarial.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in mathematics or actuarial science.
• FCAS preferred; open to candidates with strong knowledge background.
• Minimum 5 years of property and casualty actuarial experience; property lines a plus.
• Knowledge of actuarial pricing techniques.
• Strong Excel proficiency; Python/R/SQL experience may be required.

Responsibilities

• Own loss ratio planning for property and marine lines, including historical analysis and drivers.
• Coordinate catastrophe risk budgeting across property lines with ERM and actuarial partners.
• Oversee monitoring of loss and premium trends, AOI, and book management insights.
• Partner with reinsurance team to evaluate treaties as needed.
• Develop pricing, financial, and book management materials for quarterly leadership meetings.
• Lead ad hoc analyses and pricing strategies for cross-functional stakeholders.
