Job summary

Brooklyn Community Services in New York, NY is seeking an Activity Specialist for the Seth Low Cornerstone program. You will collaborate with site leadership to create engaging activities for children, teens and adults, and help run daily schedules in the after-school and evening blocks.

Responsibilities include supervising groups, maintaining attendance, and assisting with community events while adhering to health and safety protocols. Evening/weekend availability is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Some college education is preferred.
• Background in sports, music, drama, dance, photography, crafts, sewing, or the arts is a plus.
• Must enjoy working with children.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with Site Director and Assistant Director/On-site Supervisor to provide activities for participants.
• Help implement multi-sensory lessons and activities in line with engaging themes.
• Coordinate planning and preparation of activities and materials for daily schedule.
• Provide supervision to groups of children during classroom activities, snack, recreation and field trips.
• Take daily attendance and assist with community events planning.
• Oversee drop-off/pick-up following health and safety protocols.
• Outreach to parents to promote the program and events.
• Attend training and comply with health and safety protocols.

Hours: Up to 25 hours per week (school year) and up to 35 hours per week (Summer) The Program operates every day between 2:00pm and 10:00pm during the School year and every day between 3:00pm and 11:00pm during the Summer. Availability to work evenings and weekends is required.

Salary: $17.00 per hour to $17.00 per hour

Cornerstone Programs provide academic, art and recreational opportunities to children, teens and adults in NYCHA community centers. BCS Cornerstone Programs are located in Brownsville, Fort Greene, and Coney Island.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with Site Director and Assistant Director/On-site Supervisor to provide activities for children, youth, adults and seniors;
• Help implement multi-sensory lessons and activities to children which are provided in the context of academically stimulating themes;
• Coordinate planning and preparation of activities and materials for daily schedule;
• Provide effective supervision to groups of children during classroom activities, snack time, recreation and field trips. Provide effective supervision and activities to middle/high school participants during evening and weekend hours;
• Responsible for taking daily attendance;
• Assist with developing and planning community events for children, parents and community;
• Oversee and monitor authorized parental/guardian drop off and pick up of children following all health and safety protocols;
• Outreach to parents and community to promote the program, activities and upcoming events;
• Attend and comply with training requirements, including all healthy and safety protocols;
• Other responsibilities as needed and requested by site director;
