Position Overview

The Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) is a non-profit organization serving children, low-income families, youth, and seniors in East Harlem and Yorkville. We aim to deliver impactful, innovative, and intergenerational programs.

Role Summary

We seek a creative Arts and Crafts Specialist focused on DIY projects. Responsibilities include developing and leading arts and crafts workshops for teens, emphasizing DIY techniques, fostering creativity, and engaging participants. The ideal candidate is passionate about arts and crafts, knowledgeable in DIY methods, and capable of inspiring youth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate arts workshops for teens aged 12-19, tailoring lessons by age.
  • Create diverse DIY arts and crafts workshops.
  • Collaborate on program planning and execution with site leadership.
  • Build positive relationships with participants and families.
  • Research new DIY trends and incorporate them into programs.
  • Prepare detailed project plans with materials and instructions.
  • Set up arts stations and conduct hands-on workshops.
  • Learn to operate Cricut Die Cutting Machine and software.
  • Demonstrate various DIY techniques like painting and upcycling.
  • Support participants through troubleshooting and encouragement.
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness during activities.
  • Maintain supplies and organize exhibitions of participant work.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and seek feedback.
  • Market programs via social media and outreach.
  • Assist in organizing youth showcase events.
  • Serve as a positive role model, upholding professionalism.
  • Apply youth development strategies to manage behavior and celebrate achievements.
  • Participate in ongoing training and staff meetings.
  • Follow health and safety protocols.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or HSE preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills.
  • Respectful and sensitive to youth and community.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Comfort with technology (smartphones, email, Microsoft Office, Google Docs).
  • Availability to work at least one weekend day on a rotating schedule.
