Bakersfield City School District is seeking an Activity Leader, Science for 3.5–4 hour sessions to support the Extended Learning Program with hands-on science activities. ACTIVITY LEADER, SCIENCE 3.5 – 4 Hr.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Evidence of completion of ten (10) college/university units in area of science or related area
  3. Current Activity Supervisor Clearance Certificate and/or criminal background clearance by Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics or reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematic readiness, as appropriate
  5. Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials necessary to facilitate hands-on science activities
  6. Demonstrated ability or willingness to work with children of diverse ethnic, racial, cultural, educational and economic backgrounds
  7. Ability to work with groups of students in instructional environment
  8. Ability to organize and implement variety of educational, recreational, playground, and science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.) activities
  9. Ability to follow oral and written directions
  10. Interest in enhancing student school attendance, positive behavior and well-being
REPORTS TO:

Administrator as assigned

JOB GOAL:

To assist in developing science based activities in order to help students gain appreciation and understanding of basic science principles. To assist in implementation of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics instruction.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Adheres to full implementation of program guidelines and procedures of the Extended Learning Program
  2. Assists in developing and implementing science activities for participating students
  3. Works with individual students and groups of students as needed
  4. Works with parents and staff in promoting understanding of extended day program
  5. Participates in inservice training as required
  6. Assists in providing variety of activities related to physical fitness, fine arts, recreation, and prevention of unhealthful and inappropriate behavior
  7. Assists in selection and maintenance of supplies, materials and equipment
  8. Develops lesson plans related to instructional topics
  9. Assists with physical education activities as needed
  10. Assists in maintaining necessary records and files
  11. Maintains high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
  12. Models personal and professional values of equity, integrity, caring, collaboration, personal and collective accountability
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned
SALARY:

$20.53 – $33.36 per hour

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District’s “Improvement of Professional Services” handbook, Board ++Policies and Procedures++ and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:

A new employee, or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification, shall serve a probationary period, which shall not exceed six (6) months of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause, without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section 45113, a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position, shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
