Job summary

Woodland Care and Rehab seeks an Activity Director to plan, coordinate, and execute resident activity programs ensuring engagement and quality of life. You will collaborate with staff and volunteers to create meaningful events and maintain records.

The role requires a qualified professional with CPR/CAPE certifications, a valid license, and strong communication and teamwork skills in a senior-care setting.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years; preferred full-time in patient activities program.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and mental illness is preferred.
  • Current CPR, CAPE certifications.
  • Must have valid state driver's license with clean record.

Responsibilities

  • Develop monthly calendar of activities and coordinate preplanning based on resident socialization.
  • Photograph and submit activity results for media pages.
  • Plan and organize special activities and assist with marketing events.
  • Coordinate volunteers from community groups to work with residents.
  • Prepare snacks with residents and set up dining areas for activities.
  • Complete logs and reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure activity areas are clean, safe and uncluttered.

Essential Functions of Activity Director:
  • Develop monthly calendar of activities; schedule, preplan and implement based on center activity schedule and socialization of residents
  • Photograph and submit activity results for special media pages
  • Plan and organize "special" activities for residents, including assisting with marketing events
  • Cultivate relationships with referral sources in an effort to generate sponsorship and donations for planned activities
  • Coordinate volunteers form a variety of organizations and local groups to work with residents on special interests
  • Prepare special snacks with residents
  • Set-up the dining room tables for activities
  • Clean up after all activities
  • Complete required logs, charting and reporting in a timely manner
  • Keep all activity areas clean, safe, and free from clutter
  • Assist residents to and from common areas as stated within their care plan
  • Work closely with residents to generate participation, attendance at activities
  • Assist other departments with residents as needed and required
  • Perform concierge duties as directed
  • Weekends, holidays, and evenings as required.
Qualifications of Activity Director:
  • The activities program must be directed by a qualified professional who—(i) Is a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional who—(A) Is licensed or registered, if applicable, by the state in which practicing; and (B) Is eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990 or (ii) Is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; or (iii) Has completed a training course approved by the state.
  • Two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years, one of which was full time in patient (resident) activities program in a healthcare setting is preferred
  • Related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness is preferred
  • Current CPR, CAPE certifications
  • Must have current state driver's license with clean driving record
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations
  • Ability to lead facilitated group activities, comfortable working with residents
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff
  • Must be reliable, outgoing and enjoy being with the elderly
  • Basic computer knowledge for implementation of patient/client information, electronic record keeping
