Job summary

Cura-Health in Minnesota is seeking an energetic Activity Director to lead our Activities Department and design meaningful programs for residents across social, cognitive, physical and recreational needs.

You will coordinate calendars, supervise staff, collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, and tailor activities to individual preferences while ensuring compliance and quality of life.

Full Job Description

At Cura Health, we are looking for a compassionate, creative, dependable, and motivated Activity Director to lead our Activities Department and create meaningful experiences for our residents. As the Activity Director, you will play an important role in promoting resident quality of life by developing and overseeing engaging programs that support residents' social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and recreational needs.

The Activity Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive activity program based on the individual interests, abilities, preferences, and needs of our residents. This position also provides leadership and direction to the Activities Department while working closely with nursing, social services, dietary, therapy, administration, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive activity program based on resident needs, interests, abilities, and preferences.
• Develop and maintain monthly activity calendars that provide a variety of meaningful individual, small-group, and large-group activities.
• Provide programming that supports residents' social, emotional, cognitive, physical, spiritual, and recreational well-being.
• Coordinate special events, holiday celebrations, entertainment, outings, and other resident-centered programs.
• Provide or coordinate individualized and one-to-one activities for residents who are unable or choose not to participate in group programming.
• Complete required activity assessments, progress notes, care plans, and other documentation accurately and within required timeframes.
• Participate in resident care conferences and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address individual resident needs.
• Monitor resident participation and preferences and adjust programming based on resident feedback and changing needs.
• Facilitate or assist with Resident Council meetings and communicate resident concerns or recommendations to the appropriate department.
• Supervise, schedule, train, and provide direction to Activity Assistants/Aides.
• Ensure Activities Department staff understand assigned responsibilities and complete required duties and documentation.
• Assist with interviewing, onboarding, training, coaching, and evaluating Activities Department employees.
• Maintain appropriate staffing and activity coverage based on resident programming needs.
• Maintain activity supplies, equipment, and department areas in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
• Coordinate volunteers, entertainers, and outside organizations participating in resident programming.
• Collaborate with other department leaders to coordinate facility-wide events and resident-centered initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience working with older adults, individuals with disabilities, or in a healthcare or long-term care setting preferred.
• Previous activity programming or recreational services experience preferred.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Must meet applicable federal and state requirements for directing an activity program in a skilled nursing facility.
• Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to plan and manage multiple programs, events, schedules, and responsibilities.
• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with residents, families, employees, and members of the interdisciplinary team.
