This is an opportunity for a leader who understands that activities in long-term care are about much more than filling a calendar. Our Activity Director plays an important role in helping residents maintain meaningful routines, pursue their interests, build relationships, stay connected to the community, and experience purpose and enjoyment each day.

If you are organized, energetic, resident-focused, and passionate about creating meaningful experiences for older adults, we would love to meet you.

What You’ll Do

As our Activity Director, you will plan, develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate a comprehensive activities and life enrichment program designed around the individual needs, abilities, preferences, interests, and goals of our residents.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive calendar of individual and group activities that supports residents' physical, mental, emotional, and psychosocial well-being.

  • Provide programming during a variety of times, including daytime, evening, and weekend hours, based on resident needs and preferences.

  • Learn each resident's interests, routines, abilities, cultural background, and preferences and use that information to develop meaningful programming.

  • Participate in resident assessments and the interdisciplinary care-planning process as appropriate to the position.

  • Develop individualized activity approaches and interventions consistent with resident assessments and plans of care.

  • Monitor resident participation and response to activities and adjust programming when residents' needs, preferences, abilities, or conditions change.

  • Provide meaningful one-to-one activities and alternatives for residents who cannot or prefer not to participate in group programming.

  • Encourage resident choice and incorporate resident feedback into the activities program.

  • Plan special events, celebrations, outings, entertainment, educational programs, recreational activities, and community involvement opportunities.

  • Build relationships with community organizations, volunteers, schools, churches, entertainers, and other community partners.

  • Recruit, coordinate, and supervise volunteers as appropriate.

  • Coordinate activities with nursing, social services, dietary, rehabilitation, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Maintain accurate and timely activity documentation and records in accordance with facility policies and applicable requirements.

  • Manage activity supplies, equipment, and departmental resources responsibly.

  • Supervise and provide direction to activity department staff, as applicable.

  • Promote resident rights, dignity, independence, choice, privacy, and quality of life.

  • Follow facility policies related to resident safety, infection prevention and control, abuse and neglect prevention, confidentiality, and emergency procedures.

  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities as requested or required.

  • Perform other duties consistent with the role and the needs of our residents.

Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the five years preceding hire, including at least one year of full-time experience in a resident activities program in a healthcare setting; or

  • Current Ohio licensure as an Occupational Therapist; or

  • Current Ohio licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant; or

  • Certification by a nationally recognized accrediting body as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or Activities Professional; or

  • Successful completion of qualifying training in activities programming from a technical or vocational school, college, university, or other qualifying educational institution and at least one year of experience in recreational or activities services. For individuals subject to Ohio's post-April 18, 2002 training requirement, the qualifying training must include at least 90 hours.

Candidates must be able to provide documentation demonstrating that they meet an applicable qualification pathway.

We’re Looking for Someone Who
  • Has a genuine passion for working with older adults and individuals receiving skilled nursing or long-term care services.

  • Brings creativity, enthusiasm, patience, and compassion to resident programming.

  • Understands person-centered care and respects residents' individual choices and preferences.

  • Is comfortable engaging residents with varying physical, cognitive, and psychosocial abilities.

  • Has strong leadership, communication, organization, and time-management skills.

  • Can effectively lead a department and collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
