Job summary

Barren County Nursing and Rehab is seeking an Activities Director to design and lead engaging programs for residents, tailored to their interests and needs. You will create indoor and outdoor activities, foster social connections, and enhance quality of life.

The role requires coordination, record-keeping, and collaboration with staff, volunteers, and families to deliver meaningful recreational therapy in a long-term care setting.

Qualifications

• Degree and certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist; or
• Two years experience in a social or recreational program within the past five years, including one year full-time in a resident activities program in a healthcare setting
• One to two years of management/supervisory experience
• Ability to work with individuals who have cognitive, physical or sensory disabilities
• General knowledge of regulatory requirements for activity programs in a long-term care facility
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy with excellent organizational skills and energy

Responsibilities

• Develop, organize, and implement a program of activities to meet residents' social, emotional, physical, and other therapeutic needs.
• Initiate and promote activities within and outside the facility, ensuring safety and well-being.
• Coordinate and verify assistance for activities and events as necessary.
• Solicit community involvement from clubs, groups, organizations, churches, and individuals.
• Maintain detailed records of activity programs and resident participation toward care plan goals.
• Develop and distribute a monthly calendar of events.
• Train volunteers and students in recreational therapy techniques.
• Assist residents with organizing and maintaining a Resident Council.
• Maintain all activity-related records required by regulations and Medical Records.

As our Activities Director, you’ll design and lead engaging, meaningful programs tailored to our residents’ needs and interests. From indoor games to outdoor events, your creativity and dedication will help bring joy and connection into our residents' lives every day.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop, organize, and implement a program of activities to meet the social, emotional, physical, and other therapeutic needs of residents as identified on the resident’s plan of care and within the specified budget.
• Initiate and promote activities both within the facility and outside the facility, as weather permits, ensuring the safety and well-being of each resident at all times.
• Coordinate and verify that assistance is provided to residents for activities and events as necessary.
• Solicit the involvement of the community (clubs, groups, organizations, agencies, churches, individuals, etc.) when planning facility activities and events.
• Maintain detailed records of activity programs and participation of individual residents, identifying progress toward established care plan goals.
• Develop and distribute a monthly calendar of events
• Train groups of volunteers and students in techniques of recreational therapy.
• Assist the residents with organizing and maintaining an active Resident Council.
• Maintain all activity-related records required by regulations and Medical Records – activity assessments, progress notes, and discharge summaries.

Qualifications:

Meet at least one (1) of the following criteria:

• Degree and certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist; or
• Certified Activity Director by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals; or
• Two (2) years experience in a social or recreational program within the past five (5) years, in which one (1) year was full time in a resident activities program in a healthcare setting; or
• Prior completion of a state-approved training course.
• One (1) to two (2) years of management/supervisory experience.
• Skill at working with individuals who have cognitive, physical or sensory disabilities.
• General knowledge of regulatory requirements for an activity program in a long-term care facility.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy, excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, coordinate, and simultaneously maintain multiple projects with a high level of quality and productivity.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills with a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
