Job summary

Piedmont Gardens - a HumanGood community in Oakland, CA is seeking an Activity Assistant for a part-time schedule. Under the Community Life Director, you will plan and facilitate resident activities, support mealtime participation, and lead engaging programs with a resident‑centered approach.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and CPR certification, with 1 year of senior living activity experience preferred. Shift is Friday and Saturday, 8:30am–4:30pm.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience in a senior living setting preferred.
• CPR certification is required.
• Educational background includes high school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate activity programs for residents.
• Assist residents during meals and support independence where possible.
• Lead therapeutic activities with enthusiasm and compassion.
• Make in-room visits to build relationships and learn resident preferences.
• Engage residents and families to generate excitement for activities.
• Encourage participation in daily planned activities.

This is a part time position

Shift: Friday & Saturday (8:30am-4:30pm)

Work Duties

• Creates a pleasant experience for all residents, which may include engagement through appropriate entertainment;
• Provides assistance to residents during meal time and ensures each resident has the food items they wish and beverages with refills, while also encouraging resident independence as much as possible;
• Orchestrates and leads therapeutic activities of interest with enthusiasm and compassion;
• Makes room visits for residents in order to develop genuine relationships and identify resident preferences;
• Interacts with residents and their families to give direction and inspire excitement for each activity program;
• Motivates residents to participate in daily planned activities;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High school Level diploma, GED or equivalent knowledge or experience is preferred.
• One year of experience in recreational activities preferred. Vocational/technical training that includes care of elderly with dementia desired; equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
• CPR certification required
