Job summary

Sopris Lodge in Carbondale, IL is seeking an Activities Specialist to help plan, implement and evaluate recreational, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual programs tailored to each resident’s assessment and care plan, with kindness, dignity and integrity at the core of every activity.

Responsibilities

• Respects and upholds residents' rights and privacy; knocks before entering rooms.
• Assists and/or conducts activity programs per calendar and needs of residents.
• Moves and arranges equipment to keep activity areas ready.
• Transports residents to appointments and planned outings.
• Supports the Activity Director in scheduling activities and posting calendars.
• Follows care plans to provide daily activities for residents.

POSITION SUMMARY

Assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of recreational social, intellectual emotional and spiritual programs in accordance with the resident's assessment and care plan.

Transport residents to and from medical appointments, planned outings, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Respects and upholds all residents' personal and property rights whenever carrying out duties, including knocking before entering a resident's room.
• Complies with all company and departmental policies and procedures.
• Assists and/or conducts assigned group or one-to-one activity programs according to calendar.
• Moves and arranges equipment/supplies to assure that activity areas are ready for scheduled activity.
• Assists residents move to and from activity programs as needed.
• Is responsible for returning all activity department materials to their proper place in a timely manner and maintaining a tidy, pleasant atmosphere in activity room.
• Assists Activity Director in developing schedule for activities, distributes monthly activity calendars to residents and posts changes to calendar according to state and federal regulations.
• Follows resident care plan in providing daily activities for residents.
• Transport residents to and from medical appointments, planned outings, etc.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years' experience in related position, in healthcare environment preferred
• Aptitude for and/or some training in arts and crafts required
• High school diploma or equivalent desirable
