Job summary

Cedarwood Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center is seeking a Director of Activities for our Long Term Care Activities Department. This role involves planning, implementing, and evaluating the Activities Program, ensuring the spiritual and social needs of residents are met.

Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree and activity-related certifications. The position offers comprehensive benefits including healthcare, dental, vision, and 401(k). Work hours are Monday to Friday, with some weekend availability required.

Director of Activities

Cedarwood Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center is currently seeking a Director for our Long Term Care Activities Department.

Work hours: Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with some weekend availability required.

Activity Director Certification preferred.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires the necessary skills and knowledge to plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the Activities Programs in accordance with current state, federal, and local standards as well as established policies and procedures. Ensures the spiritual, emotional, recreational and social needs of residents are met and maintained individually. Adequate English reading, writing and communication skills. Ability to bend, stoop, stretch and lift up to 50 pounds; correct vision and hearing within normal range; requires driving the facility vehicle.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred. Activity Director Certification or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience as an activity professional in a short‑term or long‑term care setting preferred.
  • Certifications / Licenses: CTRS, ADC, OTR, COTA preferred; a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the Activities program.
  • Develop and maintain good working rapport with other departments and community agencies to ensure activities meet residents’ needs.
  • Assist in developing and participating in regularly scheduled orientation and in‑service training programs.
  • Interview residents/families to better tailor activities; involve families in planning when possible.
  • Arrange transportation and escorts for field trips and to other facilities as necessary.
  • Develop and implement a plan of care for each resident based on individual needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Encourage hobbies and crafts, providing materials within resident financial status and departmental budget.
  • Record and maintain activity progress notes and records of resident participation.
  • Prepare and post a schedule of activities; keep the Reality Orientation Board up to date.
  • Organize and maintain a volunteer program.
  • Report any changes in a resident’s condition immediately to the Nursing Department.
  • Report all accidents or incidents immediately.
  • Schedule individual, small group and large group activities that meet residents’ physical, social, emotional, spiritual and self‑esteem needs.
  • Make daily rounds to ensure residents’ well‑being.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments as necessary.
  • Develop a facility newsletter and calendar.
  • Review resident complaints and prepare necessary oral or written reports to the Administrator.
  • Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Administrator; be responsible for the annual operating budget.
  • Conduct one‑to‑one room visits for residents who cannot attend group activities.
  • Distribute residents’ mail.
  • Update the department’s policies and procedures manual at least annually.
  • Practice safe working habits.
  • Assist in assessing a resident upon admission and chart resident progress.
