Job summary

Overland Park Respiratory & Rehab Center in Overland Park, KS, is seeking an organized Activities Director to lead our resident life enrichment program and coordinate engaging activities for residents with diverse needs. Overland Park Respiratory & Rehab Center is a recently acquired and rebranded skilled nursing facility located in the Kansas City metropolitan area. We provide long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and higher-acuity clinical services in a resident-centered environment.

Job Summary

Overland Park Respiratory & Rehab Center is seeking an organized, energetic, and compassionate Activities Director to lead our resident activities and life enrichment program.

The Activities Director is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and overseeing recreational, social, educational, spiritual, and therapeutic programming that promotes resident engagement, independence, dignity, and quality of life.

This position will lead the Activities Department, supervise activity staff, coordinate programming throughout the facility, and work closely with residents, families, nursing, therapy, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate is creative, compassionate, upbeat, positive, dependable, highly organized, and passionate about creating meaningful experiences for residents with a wide range of physical, cognitive, and clinical needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive activities and life enrichment program for facility residents.

  • Develop and maintain a monthly activity calendar that provides a variety of individual, small-group, and large-group programming.

  • Ensure activities reflect residents' interests, abilities, preferences, cultural backgrounds, and care needs.

  • Lead and supervise Activities Department staff, including scheduling, delegation, training, and ongoing support.

  • Participate in resident assessments, care planning, interdisciplinary meetings, and other required clinical or operational processes related to resident activities and psychosocial well-being.

  • Maintain required activity documentation, participation records, assessments, progress notes, and other records in accordance with facility policy and applicable regulations.

  • Provide and coordinate programming that supports residents' physical, social, emotional, cognitive, recreational, and spiritual well-being.

  • Plan and coordinate special events, holiday programs, resident celebrations, outings, entertainment, and community involvement.

  • Develop individualized activity approaches for residents who are unable or unwilling to participate in traditional group programming.

  • Adapt activities for residents with physical limitations, cognitive impairment, communication challenges, behavioral needs, or other clinical considerations.

  • Build strong relationships with residents and become familiar with their individual interests, routines, histories, and preferences.

  • Encourage resident choice and participation while respecting each resident's right to decline activities.

  • Coordinate with nursing, therapy, dietary, social services, and other departments to support resident participation and quality of life.

  • Communicate activity schedules, special events, and resident needs to staff, residents, and families as appropriate.

  • Manage activity supplies, equipment, entertainment, and departmental resources within the established budget.

  • Support resident council meetings and assist with addressing resident feedback related to activities and quality of life.

  • Participate in facility leadership meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and other operational activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, assisted living, memory care, recreation, therapeutic activities, or a related setting strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of resident-centered programming, documentation, care planning, and long-term care regulations preferred.

Schedule

Primarily daytime hours with occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays required to support resident programs, special events, and facility needs.

Compensation

$23-$26 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and applicable certifications.
