Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a calendar of life enrichment programs and activities.

Job description

The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive life enrichment program designed to promote the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and recreational well-being of residents in the Assisted Living Facility.

The Life Enrichment Coordinator creates meaningful opportunities for residents to remain active, engaged, connected, and involved in the community while recognizing each resident's individual interests, abilities, preferences, and needs. The position works closely with residents, families, staff, volunteers, and community organizations to provide a varied and resident-centered program of activities and events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a varied calendar of life enrichment programs and activities.
  • Provide programs that address residents' social, recreational, physical, cognitive, emotional, cultural, and spiritual interests.
  • Develop activities based on resident interests, preferences, abilities, backgrounds, and changing needs.
  • Provide a combination of group programs, small-group activities, special events, outings, and individualized activities.
  • Encourage resident participation while respecting each resident's right to choose whether to participate.
  • Identify residents who may be socially isolated or reluctant to participate and develop appropriate opportunities for individual engagement.
  • Adapt programs and activities to accommodate residents with physical limitations, cognitive impairment, sensory deficits, or other special needs.
  • Regularly introduce new programs and activities to maintain resident interest and participation.
  • Develop and maintain a monthly life enrichment calendar.
  • Ensure calendars are distributed and/or posted in appropriate resident and common areas.
  • Coordinate holiday celebrations, seasonal events, resident parties, entertainment, educational programs, and other special events.
  • Meet with new residents to learn about their interests, hobbies, previous occupations, routines, preferences, and desired activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of residents' interests and changing abilities.
  • Solicit resident input regarding current and future activities.
  • Conduct resident meetings, activity discussions, surveys, or other methods of obtaining feedback.
  • Modify programming based on resident participation, feedback, interests, and needs.
  • Maintain accurate records related to activity programming, resident participation, outings, volunteers, and special events as required by facility policy.
  • Maintain documentation necessary to demonstrate the facility's life enrichment programming and resident involvement.
  • Assist the facility in maintaining compliance with applicable Assisted Living/Residential Care Facility regulations, facility policies, and resident rights requirements.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and facility confidentiality policies.
  • Evaluate activity supplies, equipment, and environments for potential safety hazards.
  • Maintain appropriate resident supervision during activities and outings.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures applicable to resident programs and group activities.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with residents, families, visitors, employees, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Communicate upcoming programs and events to residents, families, and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance, administration, and other departments to coordinate resident programs and special events.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional education or certification in activities, recreation, dementia care, or senior services is preferred.
  • Previous experience in assisted living, long-term care, senior living, recreation, activities, or a related setting preferred.
  • Experience planning and coordinating group activities, events, or recreational programming preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with dementia or cognitive impairment is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for developing meaningful resident programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to organize multiple programs, events, and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Patience, compassion, flexibility, and respect for older adults.
  • Ability to adapt activities to different functional and cognitive abilities.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, word processing, calendars, and preparation of activity materials.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidential information.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and unexpected situations.
