This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys working with seniors, planning engaging programs, and creating meaningful experiences for residents.Under the direction of the Activities Director, the Activities Assistant helps provide a well-rounded program that supports each resident’s interests and physical, mental, emotional, and psychosocial well-being.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist with planning and conducting individual, small-group, and large-group activities.Lead games, crafts, music, social events, recreational programs, and other engaging activities.Help develop and maintain the monthly activity calendar.Maintain accurate activity attendance records.Encourage residents to participate in group programs and self-directed activities, including hobbies, crafts, and reading.Provide appropriate materials for residents, including audiobooks, large-print materials, or Braille resources when needed.Offer in-room activities for residents who are bed-bound, isolated, or unable to attend group programs.Assist with resident outings and coordinate transportation for appointments, activities, and discharges when necessary.Support resident assessments, activity care plans, discharge planning, and quarterly progress notes as assigned.Build positive and respectful relationships with residents and their families.Communicate effectively with employees, support personnel, community partners, and regulatory representatives.Participate in quality-assurance activities and help implement improvement plans as requested by the Activities Director.Keep the Activities Department clean, organized, safe, and secure.Follow all facility policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.Protect residents’ privacy and maintain the confidentiality of all health information.Perform additional duties as assigned.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required.One year of experience in a long-term-care or skilled nursing facility preferred.Previous experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities is a plus.Creative, enthusiastic, patient, and compassionate personality.Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.Ability to read and understand procedures, policies, and instructional materials.Ability to solve practical problems and follow written, verbal, diagrammed, or scheduled instructions.Basic mathematical skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.No professional license or certification required.Physical RequirementsThis position requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, talking, and hearing. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The role also requires adequate close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision.
