Job summary

Sierra Vista Child & Family Services seeks an Activities Assistant for its Non-Public School program. You will support planning, coordination, and execution of extracurricular activities, fostering social, emotional, and physical development in students.

Responsibilities include classroom assistance, event planning, and crisis-intervention support, with a strong emphasis on confidentiality and teamwork among staff. Training in TCI and First Aid is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; competency tests on incident documentation and effective communication required.
  • Associate's degree or higher in Social Science/Psychology/Child Development/Education/Art Recreation or Technology preferred.
  • One year of experience working with children preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and organizing school events, extracurricular activities, and special programs.
  • Support classroom/activity responsibilities under the Teacher's supervision.
  • Implement the Academic program under supervision and use program screening tools.
  • Attend yard/bus duty as directed and provide after-school support when needed.
  • Use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention techniques to prevent and manage crises.
  • Communicate effectively with clients with intellectual/developmental disabilities to teach life skills.

Brief Description

The Activities Instructional Aide supports the planning, coordination, and execution of extracurricular activities and events for students. This role involves working closely with teachers, administrators, and other staff to provide a diverse range of engaging activities that enhance students' social, emotional, and physical development. The Activities Instructional Aide helps create a positive and inclusive environment by encouraging student participation, ensuring the safety of all participants, and fostering a sense of community within the school.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's degree or higher in Social Science/Psychology, Child Development, Education, Art Recreation or Technology preferred.
  • One year of experience working with children preferred.
  • Successfully pass competency tests related to the accurate and thorough documentation of incidents and effective communication practices.
Essential Job Functions
  • Physical capability to restrain children, lift over 20 pounds, and engage in physical activities including various sports, sitting, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, reaching, etc.

  • Demonstrates reliable and punctual attendance to ensure continuous support and presence for students and staff.
  • Maintain current Medic First Aid certification and respond appropriately to medical incidents, ensuring the health and safety of clients and staff.
  • Participate in and successfully complete the 28-hour initial Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training and maintain certification through a minimum of 12 hours of annual refresher training.
  • Consistently apply TCI principles to manage crises safely and effectively, in alignment with trauma-informed care and agency protocols.
Responsibilities
  • Assisting in all classroom/activity responsibilities under the direction of the Teacher.
  • Assist in planning and organizing school events, extracurricular activities, and special programs.
  • Implementation of the Academic program under the supervision of the Teacher.
  • Utilize program specific screening tools and complete other program related forms.
  • Responsible for yard duty (recess coverage) and bus duty (receiving, loading children) as directed by the Teacher.
  • Support after school duty on pre-assigned days.
  • Be flexible and available for movement throughout the Program/School as directed by the Teacher (i.e., in the case of staff absences).
  • Effectively use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention techniques for crisis prevention and/or intervention.
  • Effectively communicate with clients with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to teach life domain skills and adhere to principles of normalization.
  • Safe Serve Certified to accept/temp/and serve school breakfasts and lunches when needed.
  • Responsible for preventing and controlling infection.
  • Responsible for maintaining a culture of quality and safety.
  • Effectively use de-escalation skills and techniques for crisis prevention.
  • Properly administer the C-SSRS to help prevent suicide.
Other
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings.
  • Report any suspected child or dependent adult/elder abuse or neglect immediately to direct supervisor or utilize the chain of command if supervisor is unavailable.
  • Report any client imminent danger to self or to others or gravely disabled immediately to direct supervisor or utilize the chain of command if supervisor is unavailable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Base Pay: $19.00-$24.00/hour
