Description
The Activities Assistant, under the direction of the Activities Director, provides activity and recreational services to residents utilizing established policies and procedures, ensuring safe and effective care. Services are provided based on the ages of the population served -- adult through geriatric -- in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include:
- Demonstrating the skill necessary to meet the needs of all residents served through support of the mission of activity and recreational services.
- Carrying out the objectives of the activity department as a part of the resident’s social and emotional care.
- Collecting resident care data and reporting findings.
- Assisting the team to meet resident care goals.
- Identifying and meeting the individualized needs of all residents served.
The SNF Activities Assistant is under the supervision of and reports to the Skilled Nursing Activity Director and the Director of Nursing.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
- Long-term care experience preferred.
- Experience working in an activity department preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong computer skills to complete patient data entry and notes.
- Effective communication in English; bilingual abilities preferred.
Certifications/Licensure:
- Valid California or Nevada Driver’s license (depending on state of employee’s residence) or ability to obtain prior to start date.
- DMV Printout showing clean driving record.
- Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or must take the first class available through Barton University.
Physical Demands
- Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking/sitting.
- Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Regular exposure to the risk of blood borne diseases and infections.
- Subject to varying and unpredictable situations, including the handling of emergency or crisis situations.
- Subject to pressure due to irregular hours, frequent interruptions, and stressful situations.

Essential Functions
- Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.

- Supports the activities and recreational program in a safe and sensitive manner.
- Coordinates scheduled daily group activities.
- Assists in developing new activities that stimulate and encourage residents.
- Responsive to resident’s needs, including visiting bed-bound residents and fulfilling requests.
- Provides emotional and social support to residents.
- Self-motivated and able to set priorities effectively.
- Informs residents/families of progress and focuses on customer service needs.
- Follows infection prevention measures when conducting activities.
- Monitors and ensures timely and accurate documentation in resident medical records.
- Collaborates with Activities Director to develop new activities that meet assessed needs.
- Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies regarding attendance and punctuality.
- Performs other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the department.
