Activities Assistant (Healthcare)
- Participate in planning and conducting individual, small, and large group activities.
- Assist in maintaining effective communication between employees at all levels, residents, their families, support personnel, government agencies, and the public to meet the needs of residents, the community, and the facility.
- Contribute to community planning considering the interests of the facility, residents, and their families.
- Assist in developing the monthly activity calendar and maintaining attendance records.
- Support the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee in implementing plans to address quality deficiencies as directed by the Activities Director.
- Participate in discharge planning, and develop and implement activity care plans and resident assessments.
- Arrange transportation for residents for outings, appointments, or discharges.
- Develop a monthly activity schedule including outings, group activities, and in-room activities for residents who are bed-bound or isolated.
- Encourage residents to participate in hobbies, crafts, reading, and other self-initiated activities, providing necessary materials such as Braille or audio books.
- Assist with documentation, including assessment records and quarterly progress notes as assigned.
- Maintain the cleanliness, orderliness, and security of the Activity Department.
Supervisory Requirements
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferably one year of experience in a long-term care facility.
Skills
- Ability to read technical procedures and policy manuals.
- Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions.
- Mathematical skills including understanding fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Problem-solving and reasoning abilities to interpret instructions and solve practical problems.
Physical Demands
Requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasionally climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Good vision and focus adjustment are necessary.
Work Environment
Typically low to moderate noise levels. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.
