Job summary

Senior Community Care of Jefferson County is seeking an Activities Assistant in Louisville, KY to support development and execution of engaging activities for older adults in a PACE setting. You will work under the Activities Director to plan, implement, and document recreational programs that foster participation and well-being.

The role requires a HS diploma, 1 year of elderly care experience, and ability to obtain clearances. A supportive team and community-focused environment are offered.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have medical clearance for communicable diseases and up-to-date immunizations before direct participant contact.
  • One year of experience working with frail or elderly population.
  • Must pass Background Check and Drug Screen.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist in large groups, small groups, 1:1 activities (exercise, arts and crafts, games, current events, sensory).
  • Assess and reassess participants’ functional status for participation in activities.
  • Develop and implement activities that meet participant interests and abilities under supervision.
  • Complete activity charting and reporting as assigned by the Activities Director.
  • Assist in organizing special events and outings; help with setup/cleanup.

Wage- $17.88 - $19.86, dependent on experience

OBJECTIVE: Under the supervision of the Activities Coordinator, is responsible for assisting with the implementation of activities for participants tailored to the needs and limitations of the elderly. Assists participants with non-skilled Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Provides one-on-one assistance with
participants or preparing for upcoming activities. Assist with planning social, therapeutic and leisure programs.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. REQUIRED
  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • Must have medical clearance for communicable diseases and up-to-date immunizations before having direct participant contact.
  • Must have one year’s experience working with the frail or elderly population.
  • Must be able to pass Background Check and Drug Screen.
PREFERRED
  • Must have one year experience providing activities programming to elderly population.
  • CNA or PCA experience
  • Bilingual skills are a plus!
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of how to use and maintain materials and equipment of need to provide recreational activities.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements when providing and implementing recreational.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with participants, coworkers, medical staff, and the public.
  • Able to identify and recommend problem resolution.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Leads and/or assists in large groups, small groups 1:1’s and individual activities (exercise, arts and crafts, games, current events, sensory, etc.).
  • Assists Activities Director in assessing and reassessing participants’ functional status in relationship to participation in recreational activities.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of recreational activities that meet the interests, needs and capabilities of participants under the supervision of Activities Director.
  • Completes assigned activity charting and reporting as assigned by Activities Director.
  • Assists in the organizing of special events, outings as assigned.
  • Assists with preparing and cleaning up after activities.
  • Attends any meetings regarding participant care as assigned by Activities Director.
  • Assists Day Center staff as directed by Activities Director, such as lunch service and arrival of participants as appropriate.
  • Assists in the ordering of supplies for department as requested and maintains equipment in good condition.
  • Acts within the scope of his or her authority to practice.
