Job summary

Wingate Residences at Silver Lake in Massachusetts is seeking an Activity Assistant to organize and implement programs that meet residents' physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs, while promoting self-esteem in a caring environment. You will support various programming and assist with transportation and communications.

The role requires coordinating daily activities, leading groups and individual pursuits, and maintaining a warm relationship with residents and families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding residents, staff, and the community.
• Ability to relate to and perform job functions for the elderly in a positive and efficient manner.
• Capable of coordinating multiple tasks and working well under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and implements programs to meet individual resident needs.
• Leads one-on-ones, small group, and large group activities according to the schedule.
• Supports independent activity pursuits for residents.
• Understanding residents' backgrounds, abilities, interests, and needs to tailor activities.
• Communicates changes in residents' condition to the Life Enrichment Director.
• Assist in planning, developing, organizing, and implementing all residence activities.
• Develop ideas to improve and expand the Activities Program.
• Maintain a warm, professional relationship with residents and families.
• Assist with transportation and escorts to activities as needed.
• Assist with newsletters and weekly calendars.
• Attend ongoing training sessions and orientation.
• Drive residents in a van as needed.
• Perform dual tasks and work independently.

The Activity Assistant

organizes and implements programs designed to meet the individual needs of our residents. The program is intended to fulfill basic psychological, intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs while promoting self-esteem in a caring, nurturing environment. The Activity Assistant supports and assists all necessary programming.

• Assists in the development and implementation of an innovative daily program for residents
• Leads and implements one-on-ones, small group and large group activities according to the programming schedule
• Supports, encourages and directs independent activity pursuits, both individually and in small groups
• Supports the resident's abilities by understanding that all aspects of care can be viewed as an activity
• Demonstrates knowledge about residents in regard to background, participation needs, physical abilities, interests, cognitive capacity and attention span capability
• Communicates any changes in the residents' condition or behavior pattern to Life Enrichment Director
• Assist in the Planning, developing, organizing, and implementation of all residence activities.
• Develop suggestions and ideas for improving and expanding the Activities Program.
• Maintains a professional, warm and caring relationship with residents and families.
• Assist in arranging transportation and escorts for residents to and from outside and community activities.
• Assist with monthly newsletter and/or weekly calendar.
• Attend required on-going in-service training sessions and orientation.
• Driving residents in van as needed.
• Perform dual tasks and work independently

Job Requirements

• Must have a high school diploma, bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and knowledge of aging and disability issues preferred.
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding residents, staff, and the community
• Shows an ability to relate to and perform job functions for the elderly in a positive and efficient manner
• Shows a consistent ability to coordinate multiple tasks, demonstrates a positive attitude, and works well under pressure.
