Job summary

Sunnyside Manor in Wall Township, New Jersey, is seeking an Activities Aide to assist in delivering engaging programs for residents. You will support daily activities, lead group programs, escort residents, and provide one-on-one engagement to enhance physical, social, and emotional well-being.

The role involves assisting with event setup, transportation, and documenting participation, while collaborating with the Activities team to ensure safety and positive experiences for residents.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Ability to follow directions, work independently, and manage time effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to communicate verbally and in writing in English.

Responsibilities

  • Cover breaks or provide activity coverage in neighborhoods as assigned.

Job description

The Activities Aide provides essential support to the Activities Department by assisting in the delivery of engaging and meaningful programs for residents across all neighborhoods. They will assist in planning, organizing, and carrying out recreational and therapeutic activated for residents to enhance their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive well-being. They will help implement daily activities, transports residents to and from programs, assists with event setup and cleanup, and provides one-on-one companionship visits. The Activities Aide contributes to the overall success of the department by ensuring smooth operations, a welcoming environment, and a high level of resident engagement to enrich the lives of the residents each day.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in carrying out daily activities according to the community calendar under the direction of the Activities Director or Supervisor.
  • Help lead group programs and provide one-on-one engagement for residents who are unable to participate in group activities.
  • Support the setup, execution, and cleanup of activities, parties, socials, and special events in accordance with resident s specific needs.
  • Encourage and assist residents to participate in programs in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Transport or escort residents safely to and from activities throughout the community.
  • Provide companionship visits to residents, promoting socialization and emotional well-being.
  • Observe residents participation and report changes or concerns to the Activities Director or Supervisor & provide feedback to improve future events.
  • Assist with documenting resident participation when needed. Report medical concerns or observations quickly & effectively.
  • Help maintain and organize supplies, decorations, and equipment.
  • Support decorating and maintaining bulletin boards, activity areas, and event displays.
  • Cover breaks or provide activity coverage in various neighborhoods as assigned.
  • Deliver resident s mail and packages in a timely manner.
  • Work cooperatively with the Activities team and other departments to ensure the success of programs and events.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, residents, and families to promote engagement and satisfaction.
  • Adhere to and enforce all safety procedures as designated by Sunnyside Manor and the Department of Health.
  • Uphold the community s mission, values, and standards of care.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Perform a medium level of physical work including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, standing, sitting, carrying, stooping, and reaching.
  • Must be able to push wheelchairs and assist residents in mobility when needed. May be required to move tables and chairs, exerting twenty pounds of force on a frequent basis, and up to fifty pounds of force on occasion.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in a variety of settings.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in senior living, recreation, or customer service preferred but not required.
  • Friendly, energetic, empathetic, and compassionate demeanor.
  • Ability to follow directions, work independently, and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to accept and utilize constructive criticism, and display initiative to make necessary changes and improvements.
  • Display dependability, punctuality, creativity, enthusiasm, empathy, flexibility, and patience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must have the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, in English.
  • Reliable and flexible with the ability to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Moderate to complex problem-solving, excellent safety judgement, and excellent organizational and planning skills.
