Activities Aide - Long-Term Care / Nursing Home
At Fairport Rehab & Nursing Center, we provide a personalized level of care to area seniors through services and communities across our continuum of care. We are seeking a compassionate, creative, and energetic Activities Aide to join our long-term care team.
About the Position
We are seeking an Activities Aide who enjoys working with older adults, is dependable and creative, has strong time-management skills, and is comfortable using computers and electronic medical record systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning and providing meaningful recreational and social activities that promote resident engagement, dignity, independence, and quality of life.
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement activities based on residents’ preferences, interests, abilities, and individual needs.
- Create and maintain monthly activity calendars for your assigned unit.
- Encourage and assist residents with participation in activities and provide transportation to and from activities as needed.
- Assist with crafts, games, music, religious activities, entertainment, celebrations, and special events.
- Plan and coordinate facility-wide activities and special events with team members and other departments.
- Complete attendance records and departmental documentation, including MDS-related documentation, progress notes, care plans, and other required records.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and communicate changes in residents’ condition, needs, or participation to nursing staff.
- Maintain a warm, welcoming, positive, and safe environment for residents.
- Complete room setup and decorate resident and activity areas according to seasons, holidays, and special events.
- Coordinate with other departments and assist with volunteers as needed.
- Assist with reception desk duties, mail, and other responsibilities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Activities Department and overall well-being of residents.
Qualifications & Skills
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Leisure Studies, or a related field preferred.
- Relevant education and/or experience may be considered.
- Previous experience working with older adults preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia preferred.
- Long-term care or geriatric experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to navigate and effectively use an electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be dependable, creative, compassionate, flexible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Must be able to safely push resident wheelchairs and assist residents with transportation to activities.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform the physical requirements of the position.
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Must be available to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Schedule
- Full-Time
- 37.5 hours per week
- Primarily daytime hours
- Occasional evenings
- Some weekends as needed
- Occasional holidays as needed
