Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a Technologist 1 for the Plutonium Assay/Interstitial Chemistry team in the Actinide Analytical Chemistry group. You will execute analytical measurements on actinide materials (plutonium, uranium), perform sample prep, dissolution, separations, data analysis, and reporting in a nuclear facility.

The role requires handling Special Nuclear Material, working in gloveboxes/hoods, and training for radiological safety; you will collaborate with operations,

Qualifications

• Experience in a chemistry laboratory with corrosive and hazardous chemicals.
• Experience with corrosive and hazardous materials.
• Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
• Experience demonstrating good communication skills.
• Experience working in a highly regulated work environment.
• Experience using PPE including respirator work.
• Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires US citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Prepare reagents and perform general lab tasks, including extensive sample preparation.
• Dissolution of actinide materials.
• Operate instruments for actinide analyses.
• Follow approved written procedures and guidelines.
• Complete and maintain extensive radiological laboratory training requirements.
• Work in a team environment.
• Work with radioactive materials in gloveboxes in a nuclear facility.
• Understand and implement QA/QC methods and protocols.
• Maintain/improve/streamline work execution with the team.
• Adhere to DOE and Laboratory safety and governance.
