Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to study plutonium chemistry in molten salt environments, enabling actinide separations. You will join a team of chemists, spectroscopists and engineers to design hardware, perform air-free synthesis, and conduct advanced spectroscopic characterization.

A PhD in a relevant field is required, with a strong publication record and a willingness to obtain a Q clearance.

Qualifications

• Ability to safely handle reactive chemicals in air- and moisture-free environments (Schlenk line, drybox).
• Proficiency with characterization techniques (NMR, UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, NIR).
• Mechanical mindset to design and implement new hardware setups.
• Strong publication record with first-author papers.
• Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to emerging projects.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement hardware necessary for the project.
• Conduct experimental synthetic R&D using air-free techniques.
• Perform spectroscopic studies to characterize materials.
• Present work at national/international conferences and publish results.
• Collaborate with chemists, spectroscopists, and engineers to advance LANL goals.
