They will assist patients in restoring or expanding skills and strategies necessary to move forward in their recovery and rehabilitation. This position requires a high school diploma or GED, self-identify as a present or former primary consumer of mental health services, sound judgement, ability to work effectively individually and with a team, complete timely documentation, ability to work with diverse personalities with tact and flexibility, valid Kansas drivers license, and regular predictable attendance.## Qualifications**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:**1. High School Diploma or equivalent.2. Must self-identify as a present or former primary consumer of mental health services.3. Must model effective coping techniques, self-help strategies, and appropriate boundaries.4. Have a working knowledge of CKMHC Community Based Services Programs and community resources necessary for independent living and teach those skills to other individuals with severe mental illness.5. Have knowledge of the Recovery Process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established standardized mental health processes.6. Have knowledge of the signs and symptoms of mental illness and the ability to assist the client to address symptoms using strategies such as positive self-talk.7. Have the ability to effectively relate to clients, their families, and the public in a positive way.8. Must be eligible to attend the State mandated Peer Support Specialist training, successfully complete the training, and receive certification.9. Provide daily documentation of activities and participate in all required meetings.
