Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks an intern to develop algorithms for undersea sonar data using signal processing, machine learning, and deep learning. You will transform raw sensor data into actionable information for naval operations under mentorship, contributing to real-world defense projects.

Ideal candidates are pursuing degrees in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Math/Stats with a minimum 3.0 GPA, and you must be eligible for Interim Secret

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, Physics or related field.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for teamwork.
  • Curiosity about signal processing, ML/DL, or AI.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • U.S. citizenship and Interim Secret clearance eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop algorithms for SONAR signal processing and ML on real sensor data.
  • Work in small project teams with mentors to aid career development.
  • Document algorithms, performance, and insights for leadership and sponsors.
