Reports to: Director of AR Services

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Full-Time or Part-Time: Full-Time

Position Overview

The Accounts Receivable Representative, Laboratory & Pathology is responsible for managing the billing and follow-up process for assigned client accounts. This includes reviewing claim processing, denials, and payments to ensure accurate reimbursement. The representative will work directly with payers and internal teams to resolve outstanding issues, submit appeals, and communicate payment trends that impact revenue.

Key Responsibilities

  • Call insurance companies to obtain claim status, request reprocessing, and file appeals.
  • Work assigned daily tasks to meet department productivity expectations.
  • Navigate insurance websites to verify eligibility and check claim status.
  • Submit medical documentation when requested to support claim review.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims and investigate reasons for non-payment.
  • Submit appeals and resolve rejections, denials, and underpayments.
  • Identify and communicate denial or payment trends to leadership.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients through clear and positive communication.
  • Contact payers regularly to resolve discrepancies and secure payments.
  • Process adjustments using appropriate reason codes.
  • Review and work aging reports to maintain account resolution timelines.
  • Identify and process accounts for collections each month.
  • Apply working knowledge of CMS-1500, COB, PHI, and related medical terminology.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to explain claim details to insurance companies, attorneys, and authorized third parties while complying with HIPAA guidelines.
