Job summary

ClimateWorks Foundation is seeking an AP Supervisor to lead the Accounts and Grants Payable cycle. This hands-on leader will supervise AP staff, balance coverage with active processing, and ensure high standards of accuracy and timeliness across Sage Intacct and Tipalti.

The role partners with Finance and Administration to optimize controls and close processes, while supporting grants and vendor management in a dynamic climate philanthropy environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of supervisory experience in an accounts payable function.
  • Strong knowledge of AP processes, internal controls, and vendor management.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct and Tipalti is preferred; Salesforce a plus.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Outlook with detail-oriented work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full Accounts and Grants Payable cycle, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

About the Role

The Accounts Payable (AP) Supervisor works within the Finance and Administration team and is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of ClimateWorks Foundation’s Accounts and Grants Payable function. This role provides direct supervision and guidance to AP staff, monitors team workload and performance, reviews the quality and accuracy of work, and ensures transactions are processed accurately, timely, and in accordance with ClimateWorks policies and procedures.


The AP Supervisor is a hands-on leader who balances supervisory responsibilities with direct support of AP activities, particularly during high-volume periods, staff absences, and other times when additional coverage is needed. The position works closely with ClimateWorks teams, vendors, and grantees to support efficient payment processing, maintain strong financial controls, and continuously improve AP processes and systems.


Department Summary

The Accounting team develops and manages scalable, controlled processes that enable our organization to operate efficiently. The team supports ClimateWorks’ global operations across banking, payroll, expenses, and travel. We provide timely and accurate financial and statutory reporting and ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations.


How you will contribute


  • Lead the full Accounts and Grants Payable cycle, ensuring transactions are processed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule in accordance with ClimateWorks policies and procedures.

  • Directly supervise AP staff, including assigning and reviewing work, providing day-to-day guidance and feedback, monitoring workload and priorities, and ensuring appropriate coverage and cross-training.

  • Provide hands-on AP processing and operational support as needed, particularly during high-volume periods, staff absences, or to ensure critical deadlines are met.

  • Oversee the processing and review of grants and bills, including GL coding, approvals, supporting documentation, and resolution of outstanding or aging payable items.

  • Supervise weekly and special payment runs and maintain strong AP controls, including appropriate approvals, segregation of duties, and access to financial and payment systems.

  • Set up and maintain vendors and grantees in Tipalti, including validating payment and account information and changes, and maintain accurate AP data across Sage, Salesforce, Tipalti, and related systems.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for vendors, grantees, and ClimateWorks staff on AP matters, partnering across Accounting, Finance and Administration, and other teams to resolve issues and support organizational priorities.

  • Support financial close and compliance activities, including expense accruals, account reconciliations, 1099 vendor compliance, and annual reporting.

  • Identify and implement process and system improvements; develop and maintain AP procedures and documentation to strengthen efficiency, accuracy, controls, scalability, and continuity of operations.


Required qualifications


  • Associate degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

  • Minimum of five years of supervisory experience or demonstrated experience leading an accounts payable function, including supervising staff, monitoring daily work and priorities, providing guidance and feedback, ensuring questions are addressed in a timely manner, and meeting established deadlines.

  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes, internal controls, vendor management, and payment processing.

  • Proficiency with accounting and payment processing systems; experience with Sage Intacct and Tipalti or similar systems preferred. Salesforce experience is a plus.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to identify and resolve issues, exercise sound judgment, and appropriately escalat risks or concerns.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively with staff, vendors, grantees, and other stakeholders.

Location

ClimateWorks Foundation is based in the San Francisco Financial District. This position is classified as US Flexible. If US Flexible: Exceptional candidates can work from the SF office or from other locations, geographic differential applied to compensation based on local cost of labor.


Compensation

ClimateWorks offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience (geographic differential applied based on location).


For this U.S.- based position, the salary range is as follows:


Tier 1:$97,000 to $105,000 (SF Bay Area/NYC)


Tier 2:$90,000 to $97,000 (Other US locations)
