Job summary

The Accountant II position at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission is based at the Brenham State Supported Living Center. It involves routine journey-level accounts payable tasks and serves as the functional specialist for the Regional Accounting Office.

You will supervise voucher processing, verify coding, and collaborate with state offices to ensure accurate payments and compliance with procurement policies. This role requires attention to detail and a commitment to public service.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting maintenance of accounting records.
• Skill in the use of automated accounting systems.
• Ability to review and audit the work of others to interpret and apply accounting theory and policies.
• Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

• Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule per agency leave policy.
• Coordinates AP operations and ensures accuracy of vouchers and payments.
• Audits source documents to ensure validity and proper coding and timely processing.
• Provides backup coverage and supports COOP and disaster response as needed.
