Job summary

Samaritan's Purse, based in North Wilkesboro, NC, seeks an Accounts Payable Specialist to join the Finance team. In this role you will process vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and check requests, while maintaining vendor master data and supporting month-end close.

You will respond to vendor inquiries, reconcile statements, and assist with 1099 filings and related compliance. A high school diploma and 1–2 years’ experience are preferred; proficiency in Excel and Outlook is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma and 1–2 years related experience or training.
• Background in Accounts Payable or Finance preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook required.
• Ability to read and understand simple instructions, memos, and correspondence.
• Ability to present information clearly in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
• Numerical competence including basic arithmetic, rates, ratios and percentages.

Responsibilities

• Process vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and voucher requests.
• Respond to vendor inquiries and maintain accurate vendor records.
• Prepare and reconcile general ledger entries and 1099 forms.
• Process checks, domestic and international wires, and other payments.
• Support year-end audits and 1099 filings; assist with Sales/Use Tax reporting.

Samaritan's Purse is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to join the Accounts Payable team at our North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, location. In this important role, you will process a variety of accounts payable transactions, including vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and manual check request vouchers.

The Accounts Payable Specialist will also respond to vendor inquiries, prepare monthly general ledger and account reconciliations, maintain control logs, prepare 1099 forms, process electronic positive pay files for the bank, and maintain accurate vendor master files within the accounting system. This position provides an opportunity to use your accounting skills to support the financial operations of Samaritan's Purse and help advance our ministry of serving others in Jesus' Name.

In the role of Accounts Payable Specialist,you will have the opportunity to:

Maintain a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ

Prepare purchase orders, non-purchase orders, and Travel & Expense reimbursement claims for payment, ensuring proper documentation, approvals, PO/receiving report matching, resolution of discrepancies, and accurate general ledger coding.

Follow up on unpaid invoices and reconcile billing statements, including VISA Corporate Card and P-card statements, as well as departmental petty cash reimbursements and supporting documentation.

Process checks, domestic and international wires, and other payment instruments using online banking systems to ensure timely, accurate payments.

Maintain the Accounts Payable address book and provide backup support to Accounts Payable staff and managers as needed, helping ensure consistent service and stewardship of ministry resources.

Prepare audit and year-end reports and assist with maintaining 1099 files and Sales & Use Tax reports and filings, helping ensure compliance and accurate financial records.]

What are the qualifications?

As a qualified candidate, you will have the following skills and experience:

High School diploma and one (1) to two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A background in Accounts Payable or Finance (preferred)

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook (required). Strong computer skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs
