Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Roanoke, VA is seeking an Accounting Technician at the GS-6/7 level to perform a variety of accounting and clerical tasks.

The role involves maintaining accounts, processing payables and receivables, and supporting financial activities within the VISN 2 HSA 2.1 Centralized Finance Service. Qualified candidates will have at least one year of specialized accounting experience comparable to GS-5 or GS-6, as well as strong data entry and customer service

Qualifications

• One year of specialized accounting/financial experience equivalent to GS-5 level.
• For GS-7, one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-6, including clerical/technician support of financial functions and transaction analysis.

These positions are located in the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 2 HSA 2.1) Centralized Finance Service (CFS) in Roanoke, VA. The primary purpose of the Accounting Technician position is to perform a variety of functions, including maintaining accounts and documents, analyzes, examines, communicates payables, receivables, obligations, financial, administrative, decision making, technical and clerical level work.

To qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, you must meet the following requirement:

At least one full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Accounting Technician position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes performing accounting/financial activities, or handling cash transactions (i.e., Bank; Retail; etc.); using computer systems, databases, and software to gather data, create correspondence; and providing customer service, communicating with customers both verbally and in-writing. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

At least one full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Accounting Technician position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service. In addition to the specialized experience described above for the lower grade level, specialized experience includes performing clerical, assistant, or technician level work in support of financial functions and activities; and analyzing accounting/financial transactions, data, and documents for accuracy. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
