Accounting Technician
Department: Office of Rural Promise - 240105
Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from High School and one year of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Job Functions

Apply considerable knowledge of government accounting methods, program laws and regulations, procedures, and accounting practices needed to perform the work. Apply the knowledge in a variety of technology, financial systems and packages to create and maintain data. Develop formulas for moderately complex spreadsheets. Maintain ongoing communication with partners to include county financial officers with an understanding of school district policies and procedures. Quarterly site visits with county finance and administrative teams to monitor compliance and provide other training as needed. Understanding of the federal regulations governing GEAR UP and other federal grants including but not limited to EDGAR, Code of Federal Regulations (Uniform Guidance), program statutes, and program regulations. Attention to detail, organization, setting and meeting deadlines, and always remaining audit-ready are required. Effective collaboration skills are essential to working with the team, within administration, with the office of Special Funds Accounting, as well as with program coordinators on campus. Position requires effective analyzing, examining, tracking, inquiring, and ensuring deadlines are met formatch and reimbursement packets, which are submitted on a monthly basis from 11 different counties across western North Carolina. Critical thinking skills are necessary to provide regular recommendations for improved efficiencies in processes and procedures. An operational mindset is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer individual to have experience with travel procedures, purchasing procedures, Grants Management, and aspects of University funding. Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
