Job summary

TEGNA is seeking an Accounting/Tax Manager for the NSSC in Indianapolis, IN. The role covers general ledger reviews, balance sheet reconciliations, indirect tax management, and financial reporting for TEGNA business units.

Hybrid position with opportunities to lead 4–6 GL Accountants, focus on efficiency, and ensure accurate reporting in a dynamic media environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred in accounting or business with 5–10 years of related experience.
• Strong problem solving, organizational and time-management skills.
• Analytical and detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Good knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems; Oracle Cloud ERP GL preferred.
• Shared service experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Participate actively in month-end close by reviewing monthly journal entries and reports.
• Review and analyze balance sheet accounts and supporting documentation.
• Oversee Indirect Tax work including audit resolution and tax filings.
• Supervise approximately 4–6 GL Accountants.
• Maintain strong service relationships with sites and management.
• Review monthly reports for internal/external management and audits.
• Contribute to planning, analysis, and follow-up to ensure operations efficiency.
• Handle special projects and potentially more complex journal entries or reconciliations.

TEGNA is looking for an Accounting/Tax Manager to join our team at the NSSC, located in Indianapolis, IN. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, review of general ledger transactions, complex balance sheet reconciliations, oversight of Fixed Asset work, management of Indirect Tax work and financial reports for TEGNA business units. The role requires strong problem solving, analytical and organizational skills. Has experience in commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within financial reporting and accounting. Utilizes good judgment in maintaining essential job functions through planning, analysis and follow up. Takes initiative on tasks that will result in operational efficiencies. This is a hybrid position.

Responsibilities

• Participate actively in month-end close process by reviewing and analyzing monthly journal entries and reporting documents for TEGNA business units.

• Management of Indirect Tax work will include Audit Engagement/Resolution, Escheatment/Unclaimed Property Review, Real and Personal Property Tax Filing/Payment Review and Sales/Use Tax Filing/Payment Review
• Supervise approximately 4-6 GL Accountants
• Establish and maintain a superior customer service relationship with the sites.
• Review various monthly reports and analysis for internal and external management and audit groups.
• Utilize good judgment in maintaining essential job functions through planning, analysis and follow up.
• Take initiative on tasks that will result in operational efficiencies.
• Perform other duties as required, including special projects and potentially complete more complex Journal Entries or Balance Sheet Reconciliations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree is preferred in accounting or business-related concentration with 5-10 years of related experience.
• Good problem solving, organizational and time management skills. Analytical and detailed oriented.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with emphasis on superior customer service.
• Good knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley requirements.
• Strong systems orientation, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Oracle Cloud ERP general ledger knowledge preferred.
• Shared service experience a plus.
