Job summary

Minnesota Department of Revenue in St. Paul seeks an Accounting Officer Intermediate to manage the full accounting cycle for the taxes the department administers.

You will ensure tax accounts are balanced across two accounting systems, supporting the accuracy of financial statements and statewide reports. Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of professional level accounting or financial management experience.
  • Skilled in creating queries and pulling data from multiple sources.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, and Access, to include use of pivot tables and advanced formulas such as XLOOKUP.
  • Proficient in creating, analyzing, and presenting detailed financial information to varied audiences.
  • An Associate's degree may substitute for (6) months of experience, Bachelor's degree may substitute for (1) year of experience. Majors in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or other closely related fields are acceptable.

This position oversees the full accounting cycle for the taxes administered by the Department of Revenue. In this role, you ensure that tax accounts are accurately balanced across the department’s two accounting systems, helping maintain the integrity and reliability of financial information for both taxpayers and statewide reporting. Your work directly supports the accuracy of the department’s financial statements, performance measures, and other key reports.

Beyond daily reconciliation, you are responsible for preparing regular tax distributions and providing support to other core functions within the division. This role combines detailed financial work with broader operational responsibilities, offering a mix of independent analysis and collaboration across teams.

Telework Info

This position is eligible for hybrid telework. Employees living within 50 miles of the office will be required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month. Employees may reside outside the state of Minnesota if they live in a state bordering Minnesota and are within 50 miles of the primary work location.

Existing employees who were approved to telework from a bordering state and more than 50 miles from their work location before June 1, 2025, may retain this arrangement unless they move farther away.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SWIFT, SEMA4, Peoplesoft, or similar products.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota Statutes, policies and procedures pertaining to financial services.
  • State's EPM Data Warehouse reporting system or a comparable system.
  • Minnesota Department of Revenue GenTax Tax System or a comparable system.
Additional Requirements

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status). The Department of Revenue is unable to provide sponsorship for work visas. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States at the start of employment. MDOR does not participate in E-Verify

As part of an offer of employment, a fingerprint-based background check will be conducted in accordance with IRS Publication 1075.
