Job summary

The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) is seeking an Accounting Manager in Carbondale, Colorado to oversee accounting operations, including payroll, AR/AP, cash management, and treasury. The role ensures GAAP compliance and accurate financial reporting across the organization.

You will lead a team, strengthen internal controls, coordinate audits, and support month-end and year-end closings while maintaining regulatory reporting and high accuracy in financial data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, auditing, finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible accounting or auditing experience.
• Minimum of five years of supervisory or management experience.
• Experience overseeing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and treasury functions.
• Experience with financial audits, regulatory reporting, and internal controls.
• Workday experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage accounting transaction processes, including revenues, expenses, payroll administration, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and treasury operations.
• Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, deposits, payroll transactions, and cash receipts.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and other applicable accounting standards.
• Maintain current knowledge of relevant accounting standards, laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
• Support month-end and year-end closing activities and the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
• Coordinate financial information and documentation required for external audits.
• Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain effective internal controls over financial transactions.
• Identify financial and operational risks and implement appropriate controls and procedures to mitigate those risks.
• Lead payroll-related filings and reporting requirements and ensure compliance with applicable laws.
• Supervise, mentor, and manage the performance of assigned staff.
