Job summary

Cherry Bekaert LLP in Washington, DC is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting operations for a nonprofit client in a hybrid arrangement.

The role oversees close processes, GL integrity, AP, payroll, and cash management, and serves as the primary liaison for the external audit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, nonprofit experience preferred.
• Prior supervisory experience.
• Experience with complex, multi-funding-source accounting operations.
• NetSuite/Intacct preferred; other ERP experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and review/approve entries and reconciliations prepared by staff.
• Oversee AP, grants payable, payroll, and cash management.
• Lead the annual financial statement audit as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
• Strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Drive process improvement and system optimization to increase automation and efficiency.
• Partner with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
• Supervise, coach, and develop a small accounting team.
