Job summary

The ideal candidate has a strong background in accounting, CPA/CMA preferred, and at least five years of supervisory experience within financial services.

Responsibilities

  • Organize month-end closings and compile monthly board financial statement packages
  • Oversee journal entries from Accounting and other departments
  • Coordinate NUCA Call reports compilation, review, and improvements
  • Oversee payroll, accounts payable, mortgage, credit card reporting and related processes
  • Lead annual NCUA exam process and liaise with external auditors
  • Draft, review and update accounting process policies and procedures
  • Supervise staff, conduct performance evaluations and approve salary adjustments
  • Perform financial analytics across payroll, vendor payments, and financial performance

SUMMARY:

The Accounting Manager oversees the financial reporting function of the credit union. The responsibilities typically include managing financial reporting, exam, auditing, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role supervises a team of accounting specialists, analysts and financial professionals, ensuring accurate and timely recording, reconciliation of accounts, and preparation of financial statements and in-depth financial analysis. The Accounting Manager plays an important role annual exam, financial audit and tax reporting. The is role also collaborates with other departments to provide financial insights and support decision-making. The Manager also plays an leading role in developing and implement accounting policies and procedures, conducting financial analysis, and participating in strategic planning. Additionally, this role will often liaise with external Federal and state examiners, auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and address any financial issues. The Manager is also in charge of leading the accounting team in exploring the comprehensive functions in accounting system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible in organizing month-end closeness and compilation of financial statements. Compile monthly board financial statement package.
  • Responsible in organization and monitoring the progress of journal entries from Accounting and other departments.
  • Responsible in organizing the compilation, review and improvements of NUCA Call reports.
  • Responsible of key Accounting and organization processes including Accounts Payable, Payroll
  • Responsible in organizing other key reporting processes including corporate tax reporting (Form 990, vendor 1099s), escheatment process.
  • Responsible in organizing general ledger reconciliation process to maintain appropriate internal control integrity.
  • Responsible in the design, process and maintenance of CECL (Current Expected Credit Loss) pool and other allowance pools.
  • Leading role in annual NCUA exam process in relevant transaction risk and capital market areas.
  • Leading role in organizing and work paper preparation in annual financial audit with external CPA firm.
  • Leading role in collaboration with ERM in various internal audit projects in Accounting area.
  • Responsible for overseeing payroll, accounts payable, mortgage, credit card reporting and several other organization processes.
  • Supervises accounting staff within the department. Provides coaching and feedback as appropriate; establishes goals and objectives and holds staff accountable for results.
  • Draft, review and ensure timely updates of accounting process policies and procedures. Standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
  • In conjunction with supervisor, design targeted training for new and existing staff. Periodic cross training in all areas of Accounting to ensure department procedures are current.
  • Supervise staff, including performance evaluation and recommendation of salary adjustments.
  • Perform various analytics in area of financial performance, payroll, vendor payments and other relevant areas.
  • Participate and coordinate with other departments in organizational projects.
  • Reviews and recommends software and hardware changes as pertains to departmental area.
  • Acts as major liaison between department and other credit union member service areas.
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned by Supervisor.
  • Responsible for updating Disaster Recovery Manual for Accounting.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business required
  • Master’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration Preferred
Certifications:
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) preferred
  • CMA (Certified Management Accountant) preferred
Applicable System/Program Knowledge:
  • Advanced data analytical skills (proficient in Excel and other data analytical platform
  • Proficient with core financial software, general ledger software, and advanced Microsoft Office functionality
Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience with necessary training or equivalent. Supervisory experience required.
