Job summary

TGG Accounting is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the accounting function for a growing construction organization in South Florida. This hands-on, high-visibility role reports to senior leadership and requires deep construction accounting expertise, integrity, and a natural leadership presence.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as Accounting Manager, Controller, Assistant Controller, or comparable accounting leader.
  • Direct experience with the construction industry.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of: WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, job costing, retainage.
  • Ability to independently close the books and prepare financial statements.
  • Experience mentoring accounting staff.
  • Ability to present financial information to executives and ownership.
  • Strong cashflow forecasting and financial analysis skills.
  • Experience working in a small to mid-sized accounting environment.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Comfortable working onsite and partnering closely with leadership and operations.
  • Integrity, ethics, accountability, and sound judgment.
  • Natural leadership presence with the ability to coach, collaborate, and challenge when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end close process and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly P&L, balance sheet, and operational financial reports.
  • Analyze financial results and provide commentary around trends, variances, risks, and opportunities.
  • Reconcile key balance sheet accounts, including accrued expenses, retainage, over/underbillings, prepaid expenses, and payroll liabilities.
  • Prepare and present financial reporting and executive-level metrics to leadership.
  • Own and maintain monthly WIP schedules across active projects.
  • Prepare and reconcile percentage-of-completion revenue recognition calculations.
  • Manage and analyze overbillings and underbillings.
  • Review job cost reports and identify projects trending above or below budget.
  • Partner with operations and project leadership to understand variances.
  • Manage construction-related accruals and ensure revenue and expenses are recognized appropriately.
  • Support project closeout and final financial reconciliation.
  • Oversee accounting related to retainage and construction billing.
  • Lead and develop a small accounting team.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, reporting, and efficiency.

This is a hands-on, high-visibility role for someone who understands the complexities of construction accounting and has previously operated at the Accounting Manager, Controller, or similar leadership level.

They need someone who can own the integrity of the financials, lead a small accounting team, understand what is happening across active projects, and confidently present financial information to leadership with clear recommendations and insights.Construction accounting experience is required, particularly around WIP,percentage-of-completionrevenuerecognition,jobcosting,retainage,over/underbillings,andprojectprofitability.

KeyResponsibilities

FinancialReporting&Close

  • Ownthemonth-endcloseprocessandensureaccurate,timelyfinancialreporting.

  • Manageconstruction-relatedaccrualsandensurerevenueandexpensesarerecognizedappropriately.
  • Supportprojectcloseoutandfinalfinancialreconciliation.
  • Overseeaccountingrelatedtoretainageandconstructionbilling.

CashFlow&Forecasting

  • Maintainandmanageshort-termandrollingcashflowforecasts.
  • Monitorcompanycashpositionandupcomingfinancialobligations.
  • Preparecashflowandprofitabilityprojectionstosupportbusinessdecisions.
  • Provideproactiveinsightintoliquidity,spending,andcapitalneeds.

Budgeting&StrategicPlanning

  • Leadtheannualbudgetingprocess.
  • Partnerwithoperationalleaderstodeveloprealisticdepartmentalandproject-relatedbudgets.
  • Maintainbudget-to-actualreportingandexplainmaterialvariances.
